Why this rule exists
A design is a hypothesis, and until real people use it in the real world, it is unproven no matter how confident the team feels. The studio, the critique, the usability test all approximate reality, but only shipping subjects the work to the full mess of actual use: real devices, real distractions, real intentions you never imagined. Designers who treat launch as the finish line miss the most honest feedback there is, which arrives only after real users meet the work. Watching what people actually do, where they hesitate, where they drop off, what they ignore, what they misuse, reveals truths that no amount of pre-launch polish could surface. This is not a licence to ship carelessly and fix later; it is a recognition that the design is not finished at launch, it is finally testable. The best designers ship with humility and then pay close attention, because the product's real education begins the moment it meets its users.
