Opening the book…
Flighting a ball by manipulating your wrists through impact changes the low point and the face angle at the same time, so you get a different height and a different direction and a different strike quality. Ball position and finish height move the flight while leaving the delivery you already trust intact. One is a setup change you can repeat; the other is a hand action you have to time.
To hit it lower, move the ball back a ball-width or two, let your hands sit slightly more forward, and finish with the club lower and shorter — chest-high rather than over your shoulder. To hit it higher, put the ball a touch further forward and finish tall and full. Make the same swing at the same speed either way and let the setup and the finish do the work.
A genuine punch-out under branches or a deliberate high, soft lob from a tight lie are specialty shots with their own techniques, and both involve hand and face changes you should practise separately. Advanced players who have grooved a flighted wedge with a shorter, quieter release can use it — but not as a fix for a strike problem.
