Opening the book…
Capability on the visible day is assembled out of invisible days. Everyone can rise for the occasion; almost nobody can rise higher than their baseline, and the baseline is built by boring repetition. Skipped maintenance never shows up on the day you skip it — it shows up later, at the worst possible moment, as something you'll want to call bad luck.
Pick the handful of things that actually hold you up — sleep, movement, the accounts, the follow-up emails, the practice reps — and protect them as fixed appointments rather than leftovers. Do them at ordinary quality on tired days instead of skipping them; the streak matters more than the intensity. Treat administrative debt as real debt and clear a piece of it weekly.
Acute crises, illness, and genuine emergencies earn a suspension — a system that can't bend at all will snap. The test is whether you resume on your own without needing a reason to.
