Rule 10 of 25 · Chapter II — The Strike
Keep your lead wrist flat or flexing through impact instead of letting it cup and flip.
Why this rule exists
A cupping lead wrist adds loft, throws the clubhead ahead of the hands, and moves the low point behind the ball — the exact three faults you are trying to remove. A flat or slightly flexed lead wrist keeps the shaft leaning forward and the face stable, so strike and start line both tighten. This is the wrist condition that makes shaft lean happen rather than something you fake with your arms.
In practice
Make half swings and stop at impact, then look: the back of your lead hand should be flat or bowed, not wrinkled. Hit punch shots to hip-high finishes, which make flipping almost impossible, then extend the swing while keeping that same wrist feel. A glove-sized towel or an impact bag can give you the sensation of holding flexion against resistance.
When it doesn't apply
Do not chase extreme bowing — enough flexion to keep the shaft forward is plenty, and more will shut the face and drop flight too low. Bunker shots and high, soft lob shots deliberately use a more cupped, added-loft delivery.
