Shift pressure into your lead foot before the club reaches waist height coming down.
Why this rule exists
Your low point tracks your upper body and your pressure. If your weight is still hanging on the trail foot halfway down, the swing's bottom sits behind the ball and you are fighting physics to hit the ball first. Getting pressure forward early buys you room to descend without steepening or lunging.
In practice
Rehearse it in slow motion: at the top, feel most of your pressure in the trail foot, then feel the lead heel take the load as the hands drop to about belt height. Hit a few shots with your trail foot pulled back and its toe just touching the ground — you will fall over if you hang back. Some players learn it faster by making a small step toward the target from a feet-together start.
When it doesn't apply
Pressure forward is not the same as sliding your head and hips past the ball; over-shift and you will hit it thin or block it right. On steep uphill lies and some short-side flop shots you deliberately keep more pressure on the trail side to match the slope or add loft.
