Rule 2 of 21 · Chapter I — Show Up as Yourself
Say out loud what you don't know, then name the person in the room who does know it.
Why this rule exists
Pretending to competence you lack is the fastest way to lose a room, because the people who actually know will spot it immediately and stop correcting you. Admitting a gap and pointing at the person who fills it does two things at once: it makes ignorance survivable for everyone else, and it hands out real authority instead of praise. A team that can say "I don't know" out loud finds its errors earlier.
In practice
When a question lands outside your knowledge, say so plainly and immediately — no hedging, no reframing the question into one you can answer. Then say who should answer it and let them, without adding your own summary on top. Follow up later to show you retained what they told you.
When it doesn't apply
Do not narrate uncertainty about things you were hired to be certain about, and do not offload a decision that is yours to make. In a crisis, name the gap once, act, and debrief later.
